Tree Tenders

Society Hill residents value the environmental benefits of our street trees and  the  SHCA has several programs to assist property owners in maintaining William Penn’s “green countrie towne”.

Tree Tenders are neighborhood volunteers trained by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society to plant and maintain street trees.

Three ways for property owners to get a new Street Tree:

Dead Street Tree Removal – Society Hill Civic Association will reimburse a property owner 50 percent of the cost up to $500 for SHCA members and $400 for non-members for removing and replanting a dead or damaged street tree. To qualify for reimbursement, the property owner must submit the following to:

  • SHCA, P.O. Box 63503, Philadelphia, PA 19147
  • proof of the tree and stump removal (invoice from licensed vendor who did the work)
  • proof of the cost of the removal and the planting of a replacement tree (cancelled check – front & back)

Street Tree Pruning Program – Society Hill Civic Association will reimburse a property owner up to 50 percent of the cost up to $300 for SHCA members and $200 for non-members to hire professional services for pruning their street tree no more than every two years. To qualify for reimbursement, the property owner must submit the following to:

  • proof of the tree pruning expense (invoice from licensed vendor who did the work)
  • proof of the cost of the pruning (cancelled check – front & back)
