Have you noticed more light filtering through the trees in Washington Square Park? Here’s why!

Working with the National Park Service, the entire tree canopy in Washington Square Park was trimmed over the winter thanks to a significant contribution by SHCA and its members.

The project has many long-term benefits.  It will encourage healthier trees, reduce branch damage during high winds and create new light patterns throughout the park.  The additional light will help reduce bare spots by improving conditions for grass to grow. The community’s generous donations drive this and other initiatives in the park.
