Master Plan Enactment

Get up-to-date information on the Society Hill Neighborhood Plan (“Master Plan”)

Following extensive neighborhood input and expert guidance, our Society Hill Neighborhood Plan outlines design and land use and was accepted by the Planning Commission in July of 2018.

Since then we have been working with Councilmember Squilla to enact the plan into law. The two resulting zoning bills were passed by City Council in the fall of 2019 but suffered a surprise New Year’s Eve pocket veto from Mayor Kenney.

Councilmember Squilla reintroduced our bills in City Council on January 30 and we are continuing dialogue with him and the Planning Commission in order to achieve enactment in the Spring of 2020.

The bills have to go through the following steps:

  • Planning Commission hearing
  • Hearing at Rules Committee of City Council
  • First reading at City Council following passage at the Rules Committee
  • Second reading at City Council, after which Council can vote on the bills
  • Submission to Mayor (and override if Mayor vetoes)

Timing for all of this is to be determined, with the suspension of hearings due to the coronavirus. We will keep the community updated.
