Washington Square

The committee works with the Independence National Historical Park (INHP) to aid in the beautification of Washington Square through the planting of flowers and new shrubbery. The Committee has a loyal group of volunteers who have planted and maintain 15 flower beds in the Square. Maintenance of the fountain and the eternal flame are also key issues.

Washington Square Affair

This fundraising event held in Washington Square provides resources for additional plantings of flowers, shrubbery, and trees, and improvements to the fountain and the memorial.

Zoning And Historic Preservation

The committee advocates for the preservation and restoration of Society Hill’s historic buildings, and pursues the community’s interest concerning zoning issues. It entertains presentations from developers, monitors residential and commercial applications for zoning variances and reports to the Board on issues that affect the historic integrity of Society Hill.
