Communication and Outreach
The committee maintains the SHCA Facebook page and website, and generally acts to promote and inform membership regarding the activities of the Association.
The committee monitors SHCA finances and administers its operating budget.
The committee seeks to develop and implement a redesign of Foglietta Plaza at Front and Spruce Streets.
If funds are available, the committee solicits requests and awards grants to organizations or projects that will serve the mission of SHCA.
The committee provides legal advice to the SHCA Officers and its Board of Directors.
In 2003, SHCA decided to develop stronger ties with our only neighborhood public school in order to support the quality of education available to families with children. The Committee collaborates with McCall School and administers donations from SHCA members earmarked for the school.
Nominations And Elections
The committee handles the nomination and election process for the annual election of SHCA Officers and Directors held in May of each year. The committee communicates with the general membership regarding nominations, the election process, and proposals for the filling of Board vacancies.
Society Hill Safe and Sound
The committee deals with traffic, trash, crime and quality of life issues. It informs residents of any criminal incidents in Society Hill through our weekly crime report and collaborates with our 6th District Police.
The committee works with the Independence National Historical Park (INHP) to aid in the beautification of Washington Square through the planting of flowers and new shrubbery. The Committee has a loyal group of volunteers who have planted and maintain 15 flower beds in the Square. Maintenance of the fountain and the eternal flame are also key issues.
Washington Square Affair
This fundraising event held in Washington Square provides resources for additional plantings of flowers, shrubbery, and trees, and improvements to the fountain and the memorial.
Zoning And Historic Preservation
The committee advocates for the preservation and restoration of Society Hill’s historic buildings, and pursues the community’s interest concerning zoning issues. It entertains presentations from developers, monitors residential and commercial applications for zoning variances and reports to the Board on issues that affect the historic integrity of Society Hill.
